Supporters of a major political party stormed the premises of Mpika Diocese, obstructing Citizens First Party President Harry Kalaba from participating in a scheduled political program at Yusuf Radio Station.
The incident occurred between 18:00 and 19:00 on Sunday, August 24, 2024, according to a statement released by Yusuf Radio Station management.
Rt. Edwin M. Mulandu reported that a group of men, dressed in red regalia and believed to be affiliated with a major political party, forcibly entered the radio station premises. They overpowered the security guard on duty and took control of vehicle access to the property.
Despite the security guard’s attempts to manage the situation calmly and professionally, the intruders acted aggressively, wielding offensive weapons and issuing threats towards staff and residents present at the scene.
Yusuf Radio Station management strongly condemned the actions of the intruders, noting that their conduct caused significant distress and disrupted the safety and security of the radio station.
The incident has been reported to the local police for further investigation. Rt. Mulandu urged residents, particularly the youth, to reject violence and resist manipulation by individuals pursuing political agendas. He also called on the Catholic Church in Mpika Diocese to remain calm and allow the authorities to carry out their investigations.
