Millennium TV photojournalist, Attorney Munsha, Detained.

On July 30, 2024, Millennium TV photojournalist Attorney Munsha was allegedly involved in an incident at Chelstone Police Station, sparking a dispute over the events that transpired.

In a phone interview, Munsha explained that he had been assigned to cover police questioning session related to a corruption case involving former Minister of Health Sylvia Masebo, who now serves as the Minister of Lands and Natural Resources.

Upon his arrival at the station, Munsha began taking photographs of Masebo, attracting the attention of police officers who questioned his presence and actions at the scene. Munsha claims he was subsequently asked to remove his shoes and was escorted to a room within the station, where he perceived himself to be detained.

In response to the circulating reports, the Zambia Police Service issued a statement refuting the claims of Munsha’s detention.

According to the police, the journalist began photographing officers and the station premises, which led them to inquire about his actions.

They assert that Masebo was not present at the station when Munsha was taking pictures.

The police clarified that Munsha was never detained and was only asked to explain his actions, emphasizing that this was standard protocol for maintaining security and protocol at the police station.

The police further urged the media to report accurate information and avoid spreading misinformation that could mislead the public and undermine trust. They emphasized the importance of responsible journalism and maintaining ethical standards.

The Zambia Police Service remains committed to transparency and accountability and recognizes the essential role of the media as the fourth estate in society.
