The Independent Broadcasting Authority (IBA) has reiterated its commitment to supporting radio and television stations experiencing operational difficulties, while also calling for strict adherence to broadcasting standards and ethical journalism.
Speaking during a visit to HOT Media House on Wednesday, IBA Director General Susen Ndumingu emphasized the importance of regulatory compliance and content quality, noting that broadcasters must consistently meet IBA standards to enhance the audience experience.
“As a regulator, we remain available to provide guidance and support to stations facing challenges. However, it is equally important that media houses stay committed to producing accurate, relevant, and engaging content that informs and uplifts the public,” Ms. Ndumingu said.
She further urged media outlets to maintain professionalism and impartiality as the country prepares for the 2026 general elections, stressing that balanced reporting will be crucial in sustaining public trust.
“As we move towards the next electoral cycle, we call on all broadcasters to ensure fair, accurate, and unbiased coverage. The role of the media is central in fostering an informed and peaceful democratic process,” she said.
In response, HOT Media Group Executive Chairman Oscar Chavula reaffirmed the station’s dedication to journalistic integrity, pledging to uphold the highest standards in service to the public.
“We are committed to providing quality services to our listeners and viewers by remaining fair, accurate, and unbiased in all our reporting,” Chavula stated.
The IBA’s engagement with media houses forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen the broadcasting sector and uphold media freedom and responsibility across Zambia.
