Mkushi Journalists threatened

Mkushi based journalists were verbally threatened and intimidated by the District Health Officer after reporting on the theft that had happened at one of the health facilities in the district.

On June 7th, 2023, Joseph Siambihi of Mkushi Radio and Mundia Akapelwa of KNC, wrote a story on the theft of water pipes supplying water to the mortuary at Chibefwe Urban Clinic mortuary.

And when asked for a comment District Health Director (DHD), Chisali Lusale, could not justify why it had taken long for the matter to reported to police and further, directed journalists not to publish the story.

However, since the matter was in public domain, the journalist went ahead and published the information and upon hearing the news on KNC, the DHD verbally threatened the two journalists through a phone call, that they should not be found near the health facility during their course of duty.

The matter was reported to the District Commissioner who said he was going to look into the matter.
