MISA ZAMBIA DEMANDS POLICE BOND FOR DETAINED JOURNALIST MACPHERSON MUKUKA

The Media Institute of Southern African (MISA) Zambia has called on the Zambia Police to grant a police bond to journalist MacPherson Mukuka, who has remained in detention since 17 July 2026 at Kabwata Police Station in Lusaka.
According to a statement issued by MISA Zambia Chairperson Lorraine Mwanza-Chisanga, Mukuka has met all the requirements for police bond, including providing sureties, but continues to be detained despite facing a bondable offence.
MISA Zambia says police bond exists to ensure that arrest and detention do not become punishment before a court has determined a person’s guilt, and has urged the relevant authorities to respect Mukuka’s rights by granting him police bond.
