On July 3rd, the Government of the Republic of Zambia approved the Access to Information (ATI) Rules, Regulations, and Guidelines, paving the way for the full implementation of the ATI Act. This development marks a major milestone in Zambia’s long-standing pursuit of transparency, accountability, and open governance.
The approval of these regulatory instruments brings the country closer to realizing the full potential of the ATI Act, which aims to promote the free flow of public information. Access to information is widely recognized as a fundamental pillar of democratic governance and active citizen participation.
Once implemented, the ATI framework will empower citizens, civil society organizations, and the media to engage more effectively in national development processes. It will also enable the public to demand greater accountability from institutions and promote a culture of openness in public service delivery.
