CAMPAIGN DISRUPTION ALLEGED IN MONZE CENTRAL AS INDEPENDENT CANDIDATE RAISES CONCERNS
Monze Central Independent aspiring Member of Parliament Elvis Mainza has expressed disappointment over an alleged attempt by a group of masked individuals to disrupt his campaign meeting in Katimba Ward on Tuesday afternoon.
Speaking in an interview with Byta FM, Mainza questioned why some people would seek to interfere with his campaign when the Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) campaign timetable permits candidates to conduct campaigns in the same area on scheduled dates.
He urged those involved to refrain from acts that undermine democracy and allow all candidates to campaign peacefully.
Meanwhile, Village Headman Moonze Elijor Cheelo alleged that UPND Katimba Ward Councilor who went unopposed Brian Chingula was linked to the individuals who allegedly attempted to disrupt the meeting.
According to Cheelo, Councilor Chingula addressed residents before Mainza’s arrival and allegedly warned people to leave the area if they wanted to avoid bloodshed.
However, Councilor Brian Chingula denied any wrongdoing, stating that Mainza had attempted to address a gathering that had earlier been convened for UPND aspiring Member of Parliament Yvonne Siakantu.
Police are yet to issue an official statement
